A place to gather.
Red Banana Books is a community bookstore and gathering space in Co-op New West Jackson, rooted in Black freedom, grassroots organizing and collective care.
About
Red Banana Books has been eight years in the making. Shelf by shelf. Book by book. Idea by idea. Today it finally looks and feels like a bookstore.
Neighbors gather for events and conversations around tables. Young people spend time here. Inside you’ll find books on politics, history, fiction, LGBTQ+ life, local products, and resources for learning, organizing, healing, and building. Outside, the deck and gazebo host community meals, celebrations, retreats, classes, and conversations.
We’ve cooked together. We’ve run a $5 CSA. We’ve held pound cake cook-offs with ingredients we’ve grown. We’ve welcomed visitors from across the country. We’ve laughed, learned, and built community together.
At its heart, Red Banana is about access — to knowledge, to resources, to community, and to the stories and skills that help us build the futures we want.
